Hi there,
It’s June, which means it’s time for our annual Pride episode, and this year, Matt welcomes back Richard Lawson, film and culture critic, author of the Premier Party newsletter, and host of the Critical Darlings podcast. Richard has joined us each year to talk about the Academy Awards, but for this episode, we simplified the format and did things a little differently.
Cocktails in hand, in Matt’s living room, Richard having just seen He-Man: Masters of the Universe, and Matt, having just finished Richard Gadd’s new HBO series, Half Man, they had a conversation about fathers, armor, sexuality, and what it costs to leave any of that unexamined.
The conversation veered toward Pedro Pascal, queer coding in children’s characters, whether Richard Gadd is okay, the specific grief of a good movie that still boils down to ‘sad about dad,’ and toward the end they discuss something Richard hasn’t talked about much publicly.
Enjoy,
Elizabeth, Erin, and Matt
